The Canadian Dental Care Plan
Now Accepting Patients Through the CDCP
Are You Eligible?
To qualify for the CDCP, you must meet all four of the following criteria:
- You’re a Canadian resident
- You’ve filed your tax return for the previous year
- You don’t have access to dental insurance
- This means you do not have employer dental coverage, are covered under a partner’s employer dental insurance, are covered as a student, are covered under pension benefits or a partner’s pension benefits, or are covered under private insurance
- Your family’s net income is less than $90,000
Application acceptances began in December 2023 for seniors aged 87+. Other age groups were able to apply earlier this year. As of June 2024, persons with a valid disability tax credit certificate, and children under 18 can apply. All remaining eligible Canadian residents can apply in 2025.
What Services Are Covered?
The CDCP will pay for a portion of the costs for the following dental services:
- Dental exams (3 exams per 12 month period)
- Polishing (½ unit per 12 month period)
- Scaling (4 units per 12 month period)
- X-rays (1 unit per 60 month period)
- Fluoride applications (1 Unit per 12 month period)
- Permanent and temporary fillings
- Root canal treatment
- Complete and partial dentures (1 per arch per 96 month period)
- Minimal sedation services
- And more
Frequencies vary greatly depending what exactly is needed and the age of the patient, sometimes requiring pre-approval. Visit the government Canadian Dental Care Plan website for a full breakdown.
Services such as bonding, moderate or deep sedation, dental crowns, and more, will require approval in advance which will begin in November 2024.
How much will be covered will be based on your family’s net income, therefore, the CDCP may not pay the full amount and you will have to pay out-of-pocket costs. More information on co-payments and additional charges are outlined on the Government of Canada website. Please call our office for questions regarding co-payments and estimates.
